Steps to pull off Tech 2:
Step 1: Hook up your Tech 2 (Driver's footwell)
Step 2: Startup TECH2
Step 3: Enter Diagnostics menu
Step4: Enter year of car
Step5: Enter Passenger Car menu
Step 6: Select Body from the menu
Step 7: Select Y body from menu
Step 8: Select body style from menu (Coupe/Sedan is FRC/ZO6)
Step 9: Select transmission type
Step 10: Enter body control module menu for adding/deleting option codes such as automatic headlamps,F45 suspension.
Step 11: Enter Special Functions menu
Step 12: Enter BCM RPO Reprogram
Step 13: Enter cars country of origin(us and canada rpo v73)
Step 14: Toggle functions on and off. The asterisk next to the option code indicates this function has been turned on.
Note that the Automatic and Manual HVAC controls are both turned on. This is normal and should be ignored. Go ahead and hit the save option button when your done and power off the TECH2.

Where to buy a decent Tech 2 clone to unlock stock head unit?
Looking for a decent Tech II of some sort for unlocking a radio
Cost: Dealership will do it for $135, which isn't bad too me compared to what i've seen others pay.
Tip and guide:
If your going to wrench on the car, then pick up a Tech II clone; since your going to need one for even simple things like when you go to flush the brake lines (cycle the ABS pump) or need to pull body codes that a standard scanner will not pull. http://www.chinacardiags.com/wholesa...l-package.html

Here is how to unlock the radio with the clone Tech II
You need to find either a dealer or an independent shop that has a TECH II to "unlock" your nav unit. The GM radios are VIN specific, so the unlock process involves clearing the old VIN # from the nav unit, and allowing it to accept your VIN #. As I said, this can be done by anyone who has access to a TECH II. All GM dealers should have them, and if they tell you they can't unlock the radio, they are not telling you the truth. I went to my local Chevrolet dealer when I installed the nav unit in my 08 base. It's about a 5 minute job, but they charged me a 1 hour minimum labor $130.
I copied the how to shown below from a fellow forum member.
Here is how to use the TECH II to put the Nav unit into relearn mode:
Connect TECH II to car and put the car into acc. mode
At the main screen, select diagnostics
At systems selection menu screen, select body
At the VIN indent screen select
Appropriate model
Appropriate air conditioning
Nav radio
At the body screen, select Nav radio
At the radio screen, select special functions
At the special functions screen, select VIN relearn
At the VIN relearn screen, the scan tool will display, "do you want to clear the radio theft
information?"

As for the may not be able to, it just depends on the dealer, since some will want a bill of sale for the old Vet owner of the radio to verify that it not a stolen unit that they are marring to another car instead.
As for if this OEM radio has always been in the car, and went into lock mode, then there is a problem on the GM land bus or the radio itself that is causing the problem, and just clearing the old marriage so it can remarry to the car, may not fix the problem instead.

Can I use Tech 2 for OBD1?
TECH 2 scan tools work with GMs from 1991- 2013
OBD1 is everything before '96!
If the menu is in the Tech2 for '91 then that hints that all you would need is the correct 16 - 12 connector/adapter and also likely a provision to power it with the adapter. OBD2 is self-powered from the DLC, OBD1 ain't. '94 & '95 would work without the adapter, they're 16 pin DLC with pin 16 being B+.
I've used my "REAL" Tech2 with '95 but not Corvette, compared to my Tech1 on the same car I did have some contradictory comparisons that I couldn't explain. I don't recall them now but it did confuse me for a time. I put a JY ECM in a '95 ParkAvenue for a fellow to resale and it ran well so I worried NOT about it.
FYI, There is a Tech1A OBD1 to OBD2 interface that lets the Tech1a work fine with 96.
I have done it multiple times, you MUST have a Tech1A with correct mass storage module to install a new PCM or CCM to program key fob resistance, mileage , vin info ,LT1 or LT5. You have 100 miles after install to program the module or it becomes non programmable. (this pertains to new or reman module, used module is just what you get and is non programmable)
Edit: The manual says it should work with the OBD I connector:

If not properly grounded, the CANdi module will appear to be defective when it is not. The CANdi
module will fail due to improper grounding if you use the 16-pin DLC (J-1962) connector and power the
Tech 2 from an AC/DC power supply. The adapter you use must have a GM part number. Although PVI
adapters are similar to GM adapters, they will not work with the CANdi module.

If a CANdi module is not functioning properly, please perform the following tests:

Tech 2 clone review: shipping, cost, pack, install, tips for newbies
Here, I’d like to give my buying experience on Tech 2 china clone.
Cars:
I have my C6, 07 2500 GMC, 09 Cobalt that it will work on. Have another scan tool for our foreign cars.
Shipping:
Shipping was a shocker. China to Cincinnati in 3 days. Ordered it Sunday evening, they processed it quickly, shipped it Tuesday morning and it was sitting on my front porch today, Wednesday by noon.
Cost and package:

Install:
The memory card works in either slot, I tried both although the disc says to install in upper slot. It's a tight fight because the spring loaded door doesn't quite open enough for the card to slide in easily. I got it in with a touch of prying. Not a big deal.
Summary:
Entire purchase process was easy with no problems at all. It is a great scan tool kit for not much money. Time will tell how it holds up long term but from other members reports they are getting years out of them.

Hence most laptops no longer have a RS232 serial port to plug it into a laptop when you are using TS2000 to say firmware upgrade a module on the car.
Note on TS2000, it runs under XP, so if you want to load TIS2000, you will need to VM the machine first, and load windows under a VM running XP as the OS. If TIS2000 came with your clone, then chances are it already cam with a VM to do so.
As for the needed module firmware updates for the car, if you can not find the update file from the web, then GM will sell you a one day subscription to down the needed file from them directly instead.

These are THE GM scan tool for GM cars and most trucks only from early OBD1 91-92 up to MOST 2013 OBD2.
They read, clear, help diagnose error codes and problems. They read any control module on the car. Most of the other scan tools only read engine and some ABS codes. I am reading the users manual now to learn just what all it can and can't do.
The GM service manuals always refer to the Tech2 for further diagnosis on any error code whether it be engine, trans, ABS, body, chassis.
The 33.004 GM software is the latest and last update for these tools.
GM is moving to MDI for 2014 and up.
I used high dollar Snap-On scanners all my shop life and while they were top of the line they had some glitches and updates were $800-1000 a shot plus the $3900 to buy the tool in the first place.
But, any scan tool only gives you info and data, YOU have to take that info and data and make the correct repair based on that data. People sometimes think that a scan tool will tell you exactly what the problem is, where it is and how much it cost to fix, not true as you have to be able to use the error data with the troubleshooting tips to plot your repair.
But without these scan tools and you have a 'check engine' lite on you will be throwing darts in the dark as far as wondering what the problem is. The scan tool will guide you on where and what the problem is based on the actual error code # and definition.
It is nearly impossible to correctly diagnose any dash error warning light on any vehicle without a good scan tool.
