How to use Tech2 program the Central Control Module (CCM)

Chinacardiags found a good way to solve unable to program the Central Control Module (CCM) using Vetronix Tech2.
Here is the solution.
Models: 1994-1996 Chevrolet Corvette

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/ Concern:
The following process should be used to program a service (replacement) Central Control Module (CCM) on a 1994-1996 Corvette.
It may be found that the option F0 : PROGRAM CCM is not available on the Tech I.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Note: The PCM must be programmed prior to programming the CCM if both have been replaced.

Program PCM

Remove class 2 line from DLC pin position number 2.
Install Tech 2 and request information from the vehicle, download PCM calibration from TIS to the Tech 2 and then upload to the vehicle.
Reinstall class 2 line to the DLC.
Program CCM

Install the Tech 1 with VIM cable adaptor P/N 3000091.
Select programming, model year, 4th digit of the vin, select the module (CCM), Program CCM, select location (North America), enter the rest of the vin, select transmission type, odometer select (miles or kilometers), enter odometer reading, programming is complete.

Note: Tech1 adaptor TA02149 will only work on the 12 pin DLC connectors that are typically found on model year 1993 and prior.

How to Solve OBD2 Port Not Communicating with Tech 2 Scanner

This post collected the problem “OBD2 Port Not Communicating with Vetronix Tech 2 Scanner” from the user and offered the way to deal with. Hope it may help you when you meet the same

I recently purchased a clone GM Tech2 scanner to access the diagnostics in my 2006 Hummer H2. The scanner is operational and can scan all protocols but can not link to any of them. There are no driveability issues. I performed troubleshooting by doing the following:

  1. Verified that the Power Control Module (PCM) and Data Link Connector (DLC) fuses were okay.
  2. Tested DLC pins 4 (chassis ground) and 5 (PCM ground). The voltage was less than 0.1 which led me to believe low resistance.
  3. Performed a volt reference check on DLC pin 2 (serial data) to determine if it was 5 volts and actual voltage was between 1 and 2.
  4. Tested DLC pins 4 and 16 (battery) and the voltage was 12.58.
  5. Checked the purple, black, black/white and orange wires on the back of the DLC for integrity and did not find any issues with fraying or looseness.

I am not sure what to think, whether the issue is with the PCM or wiring. I am trying to locate a wiring diagram for the PCM and DLC which will give me a better understanding of the wire mapping. I know the PCM has two connectors and I probably should see if there is continuity in the purple wire (Pin 2) and its termination in one or the other connector.
Solution:
"DLC" is the Datalink connector (the connector that pushes into the vehicle) so "DLC-2" is Data Link Connector pin 2.
"D" is the 26-Way D-Type Connector that screws into your Tech2, "D-4" is 26-Way D-Type pin 4.
So if you look at the ends of the cable connectors, the pins are numbered as per my sketch.

So detach your TECH2's cable and check the following:
  1. DLC-2 connects to D-4
  2. DLC-4 connects to both D-8 and D-9
  3. DLC-5 connects to D-2
  4. DLC-16 connects to both D-17 and D-18
These 4 wires are the only important ones, the rest you can ignore, infact DLC-2 to D-4 is the key one, I suspect everything else is OK.

Your TECH2 should have come with a 12V Power Supply that plugs-in just to the right of the 26-Way D-Type, its a standard 12V jack. If you don't have a PSU one from a PC monitor, just check its 12V.

Connect scope probe tip to DLC-2 and ground clip to either DLC-4 or DLC-5, set the scope to DC, 1V/Division and 200uS/Division. If you can set the scope to "free run" or "continuous" just to prove there is activity then set it to "DC Triggered" with a trigger level of around +1V to +2V. On the TECH2 select the function I mentioned before (even if your vehicle doesn't have AS) and you should see a signal the moment you hit the key.

If the signal looks similar to the one I posted, then its safe to assume your TECH2 is working OK.

When you say "The scanner is operational and can scan all protocols but cannot link to any of them" do you get a communications error? If so make sure you have selected the correct "Model Year" not the year the truck was 1st bought e.g. my model year is 2005 but was bought in 2006. I noticed that I get the same issue when the wrong year is selected.

How to build a P10 PCM benchtop harness using Tech2/TIS2000

This is the info needed to build a P10 PCM benchtop harness.
Yes, everything works. I bought a USB dongle from http://www.chinacardiags.com/wholesale/tis2000-cd-and-usb-key-for-gm-tech2-gm-and-opel-car-model-706.html , reconfigured TIS2000, and it now works flawlessly.

Here is an incomplete parts list... sorry I made many trips and didn't write down everything as I intended...

For the P10 PCM go to a "You Pull It" junkyard and obtain the Blue and White connectors (with as much pigtail as you can get). Sometimes you can find a used PCM with pigtails. I did find a cheap used P10 PCM to use as a spare/test PCM. The OBDII, radio, and BCM connectors (with pigtails) I also got from a you pull it junkyard. I would also check your local craigslist for private parties parting out GMT360's in their backyard. I was surprised to find several local to me although I got the connectors/pigtails from a "Pull-N-Save". At self serve junkyards, at least the ones I frequent, couldn't care less I was butchering harnesses on cars to get the connectors I needed. I pulled out all the pins/wiring for each connector that was not used... cleans it up a bit. You can also Google "Row52" for a local self serve who is in their network.

I started out with a small plastic project box but wound up with a larger aluminum project box. Aluminum project boxes are much easier to work with for drilling/tapping holes. If I had to do it over again I would have gotten a slightly larger (longer) aluminum project box because the one I wound up with would only effectively allow a 6 position terminal block to be mounted on the bottom. I could have used more positions. I have since added a E40 ECM connector for my 06 SWB TB 5.3L. So, its busy in the box. I should have made the box a little more modular.
I soldered every connection possible... wiring shrink wrap/protection tidies up the rig.
Doing it over again I would not have used an LED for incoming "Battery" power confirmation. My Power Supply does that for me already. It also further clutters the guts of an already tight project box.
Power Supply - (you don't need something this fancy... but these are useful for other projects/bench circcuit troubleshooting)
Circuit Specialists CSI3005SM Power Supply
(obtained cheap banana test leads at Frys to cut up and use to connect to project box)
Project Box - (Frys Electronics)
Philmore 1590C Hammond Diecast Aluminum Allow Boxes 4.7x3.7x2.0
Terminal Block - (Frys Electronics)
Philmore 6-Pole Dual Row terminal Block. I believe these are 10-32 screws so I obtained some #10 terminals for soldering/securing to terminal block. Try to find terminals for 18-22AWG wiring...
Fuse Holder - (2x) - (Frys Electronics)
NTE Panel Mount Fuse Holder for 5 X 20mm Fuses.
Search Amazon for your choice LED power Switch -
"Round Rocker LED Power Switch"
The connector I used to tee out to the BCM and Radio connectors resembles a microphone jack. I forget the model/part numbers but I obtained these from Fry's. Again, doing it over again I would have used a solder cup serial comm D Sub 9 (or 15 - VGA) connector setup for future expansion + a little more robust. I would have also used a D Sub connector on the PCM/ECM connector side.
Wiring - I used bits and pieces from cut GMT360 harnesses and cut up some different color cheap test leads purchased from Frys to keep track of everything.
For drilling the larger holes in the box I used a Harbor Freight Step Drill bit. They come in sets of 2 and 3. Figure what hole size you need and plan accordingly.
Overall, I am very happy with my new benchtop adapter, Tech2 and TIS2000.

Is possible to change idle speed with GM Tech II?

Possible to raise and lower idle speed using a Tech II scanner?
Look here - questions and answers from users and technicians
2003 escalade, found a TSB regarding rough idle, I need to raise and lower the idle by +/- 50 rpm. How do I do this with a Tech 2?
For the 2003, if the tsb refers you to a new calibration you might able to reprogram with tis2000 (depends on the tsb date).
Note that things can't be done with the scan tool alone.
2011 escalade would like to know how to do a VIN reprogram/ relearn for the radio.
For the 2011 you'll need tis2web.
Note that things can't be done with the scan tool alone.
Is it possible to adjust the idle rpm with the Tech II?
You cannot change your idle rpm with the Tech 2. On some vehicles you can raise and lower the rpm by controlling the iac motor, but only for diagnostic purposes.
What do I need to be able to change my idle speed for cold conditions . ECM program adjustment? should be able to control it with cruise control switch correct?2002 GMC duramax 2500HD . (1GTHC23182F202689 - 2002 GMC VIN.)
your vehicle can the ecm reprogrammed for the fast idle increase. your local dealer should be able to help you out.
Which one Tis2000 will support escalade 2009 to reprogram with Tech2?
For 2009 you will need an online subscription.
I'm trying to change the idle speed on a 98 camro m6, ls1, with a big cam for a friend of mine.
Can anyone enlighten me as to the proper procedure to adjust it with a GM tech 2? He wants it specifically set with the ecm.
You cannot do it with a TECHII. Simple as that. What you want to do is considered editing, and you cannot edit with a TECHII. Period.
Only thing you can do with a TECHII is upload GM specific files, tunes, updates, whatever you want to call them.
Raising of the idle can be done using the bi-di controls in the scanner function, but it does not burn it to the memory.
Drilling a hole in the T-body does you no good, because without raising the idle in the tune, the IAC will just close up more, trying to get the idle back down to the desired speed.
I assume the same is true for changing the rear gear ratio?
You can change gear ratios by changing RPOs. Totally different thing. Thats still not editing. It's changing what the computer thinks the car came with from the factory.
You cannot tell the computer the car has a 4.56. You cannot change the idle.
To correctly change the idle, you need to increase the base idle airflow, as well as the idle speed. You need to purchase a tuner suite. HPtuners or EFIlive.
Is it possible for GM vehicles to get the ecm reprogrammed for the fast idle increase. your local dealer should be able to help you out. How it works?
Connect the Tech 2 and follow the steps below to program the ECM for idle up feature with PTO operation:
Turn on tech 2 and build the vehicle
select "Powertrain" (Or "Vehicle Control Systems" on later models)
select "Special Functions" (or "Module Setup" on later models)
select "PTO Options"
select "Change Options" (soft key at bottom of the screen)
select F1 "PTO Preset Speed Control"
select pto max engine speed set to 2200 - 4400 rpm (not below 2200)
Note: These steps will not allow the engine rpm to exceed the rpm setting, even during normal driving if the PTO switch is on
select stand by speed (base fast idle ) set to 1200 (this setting is initial fast idle)
select PTO set speed - set to 1400 rpm
select PTO resume speed - set 1700 rpm
select PTO max engage speed - set to 1800 rpm (PTO engagement inhibit speed)
select PTO engine shutdown - no
select PTO engage relay - no
select PTO feed back -no
select "Reprogram" (soft key at bottom of screen) "Waiting For Data" displays on screen-once data comes back verify settings remain
key off- until tech 2 "beeps" and screen shows "no communication" (Very important step if missed setting will not store)
key on - verify settings remain on list
operate pto

Tech II kit has everything I need to use on 2009 Vert?

You'll need a Tech II full kit, incl.
1) the Tech II itself,
2) the standard Tech II main cable ("DLC"),
3) the CANdi module,
4) the standard SAE ODB2 adapter,
5) a 32MB PCMCIA card with the GM software.
Source: http://www.chinacardiags.com/wholesale/gm-tech2-gm-diagnostic-scanner-with-32mb-card-and-tis2000-in-carton-package-2934.html
Pretty much every Tech II kit will come with all this stuff. Just make sure it has the CANdi module, and specify the GM software.
There are also a bunch of other adapters you won't need for standalone operation with your Corvette. But those should be included, too.
Most people don't opt for the carrying case because apparently it isn't very good and it considerably increases the shipping cost.
*EDIT: there's also the VCI module that goes inside the Tech II. It's basically part of the Tech II itself and may not be listed separately.
*IMPORTANT: read it before you make a purchase!!!

Tech 2 can solve climate control system issues in Hummer? YES!

Topic: Tech 2 clone for climate control system issues in Hummer? How to
Problem: Hello Everyone, I am having a problem with my climate control system in my 04 H2. The driver side was stuck on heat and the passenger side would blow ice cold air. I followed the GM reset procedure and now both the driver side and passenger sides are stuck on heat. Should I try anything else before I tear the dash apart and change the blend actuators?
Suggestion:
Try this

Start truck .
Put Ac in auto mode
Turn off engine
Remove battery . Both + and -
Give a day . At least a night
Connect batt
Turn key to on possition. Dont start engine
Give it 3-4 min to relearn .. DONT TOUCH THE AC CONTROLS
turn key to off for not more than 15 sec
Start engine and test Ac
If it doesn't work then you may need to replace the actuator and again follow the steps

But it is weird the two sides went bad at same time . I would look for more info before trying to change them
FYI if the drivers side is the one you're having the issue with, it is one of the easier actuators to replace. It is under the glove box and you can replace it just by removing the plastic underneath the glove box. Now if your passenger side was blowing hot and your drivers was cold, that's when you have to take the whole dash apart
Website:
http://www.chinacardiags.com/wholesale/gm-tech2-gm-diagnostic-scannerworks-for-gm-saab-opel-suzuki-isuzu-holden-1011.html This is the TECH II that I purchased.
Result:
Thanks Everyone! I received my Vertronix Tech II- It works great! I was able to re-calibrate the actuators and now the driver's side is working correctly, The scanner tells me that the passenger side actuator is stuck so I guess I will be taking the dash apart.
Test:
I have fully tested it with all systems now and it works great. It told me that I had to replace both of my climate blend door actuators. I was able to tear the dash apart and replace them in 2 hours. Now my AC works again!!!

Has anyone tried the TECH II Clone on Hummer H2?

I've got one and it works perfect on my 08
A few of us have them..... works great! Can also get to things like the rear air ride (if yours has that) which no other tool can deal with.

That being said I've seen on other forums where some people have major issues with their clones. Best I can say is I got mine from http://www.chinacardiags.com and it works perfect.
It will come in handy sometimes. Now figuring out how to use all of the functionality will take a bit too. You can pretty much get right into diagnostics and whatnot pretty easy though. Programming takes a bit more as you will need to either install TIS2000 or pay for a short subscription to the ACDelco TIS system. TIS2000 is a pretty old program but does still have updates and whatnot for some things in our H2's. The tricky bit is it runs on Windows XP. There is tons of info online about ways of getting that software installed and working though. The Tech2 will also come in handy for other GM vehicles as well and can give you a lot more info that most any other scan tool.
I'm pretty sure this one.... Vetronix GM Tech2 with Case for GM/SAAB/OPEL/SUZUKI/ISUZU with Candi Module Tech2 That is the same one I got a couple of years ago.

Note - The TIS2000 and USB key is only needed if you want to update the software on some of the computer modules (which can fix minor issues with the updates) but you will need an older PC with Windows XP (can also work on Windows 7 though) and a serial port to use the TIS2000 software.

If you want to do ECU programming or SPS programming, you’d better have a GM MDI interface with Global TIS.
If you need program new keys (only online with GDS2 and Tech2win), it depends.
If you have a new car or pickup truck after the year 2010, you have 3 options: MDI interface, Mangoose cable, Nano;
If you have an old car or pickup truck, you have one more option, Tech 2. That is, 4 options for the old GM vehicles: MDI, Mangoose, Nano and Tech 2.
If you want to have a diagnostic test on GM vehicles, you can have any tool with GDS2 or Tech2win or TIS2000. Clearly, all tools above can be used for GM diagnosis.

Silverado & Cruze diagnostics – Need advice: Tech2 or MDI?

GM scan tool I might get:
What is the difference between the TECH2 hand held tool and the newer MDI interface you use with a laptop?
From what I read, the MID will replace the TECH2 but currently it doesn't diagnose, just program.
Car and purpose:
I need to diagnose a few issues on a 2007 Silverado, 2012 Cruze and 2013 Cruze flood car.
Budget:
The clones are under $400 so it might be time to get one.

Advice:
1.
The Cheap $300.00 to $400.00 Tech 2s, made in China and don't even bother having updates installed. They will crash when when updates are installed.Overall the clone Tech 2s are good for what you are doing and are good as the real version now made by Bosch. The real version was made by Vetronix, Bosch bought out Vetronix in 2003.Also make sure it has the Candi box with it,a must for these CAN vehicles.
Link to a decent Tech 2 clone: http://www.chinacardiags.com/wholesale/tech2-diagnostic-scanner-for-gm-saab-opel-suzuki-isuzu-holden-with-full-package.html
2.
The last update for the tech 2 has already come out so, I would think about buying a new one unless you work on a lot of GM products.
Depending on the vehicle you're working on, the MDI (Multiple Diagnostic Interface) will do everything a Tech 2 will do but, you'll need a laptop and GDS software. Going forward from the 2013 model year, the MDI with a laptop will be the GM Diagnostic tool.
3.
General Motors (GM) has launched Global Diagnostic System 2 (GDS 2) – its next generation, PC-based vehicle diagnostic system. GDS 2 is a PC-based platform that builds on the original GDS application, but also incorporates several new features, based on technician input. Combined with a Multiple Diagnostic Interface (MDI), GDS 2 provides an exclusive, effective and efficient system for the diagnosis of all the automaker’s new Global Architecture vehicles.
http://www.gmmdisale.com/article/gm-gds-2-software-aid5

MY2013 GM vehicles are supported through GM by GDS 2.

Bi-directional commands (turn devices ON/OFF, ... ) are a big difference between licensed GM tools (TECH 2 and GDS 2) and generic after-market tools that display data.
4.
Mdi can also use tech2win. A pc based virtual tech2, has all the features of a physical tech2
5.
tech2 is being phazes out, the MDI as stated above will replace it fully very shortly, you can use tech2win for older vehicles, GENERALLY anything with the new style flip keys from general motors will require the MDI with GDS2 software. so those clone tech2s will be useless on both cruze's you plan to work on. they may or may not work with the 07 silverado, depending if they have the CANDi module
6.
You do not need the MDI interface, Cardaq has a GM dongle that is approved by GM for Tech2win and GDS 2-$500 dollar cable and a subscription to GDS 2 and you have both. FYI they have short term subscriptions too. Tech2win does have some issues still but should get you what you need.
7.
Tech 2 scan tool has become obsolete for shop use as of late. It still has a lot of capability and will do anything you need for the older platforms but it needs the CANdi module to work with any of the new stuff. The MDI is a 1 shot deal for all the newer PCMs and will still work on the older stuff too. I sold my Tech 2 and bought an MDI last year, haven’t missed the Tech 2 since. Then again I’ve got a Genysis scanner I use for all my typical diagnostics & probing.

However, the MDI requires a GM log-in with monthly access to GM’s website. That’s it’s only draw back for the enthusiast who wants a GM caliber scanner. The Tech 2 can be updated within itself and doesn’t require the internet, the MDI does.

If you’re running a shop, get an MDI. For the garage warrior or enthusiast, get a Tech 2. Just don’t fall for these $350 pieces of garbage.

You can say that, Tech2win is a pain the the butt. It never updates security correctly for the 30 day window and that using GM computers and login info. The tech 2 is great for code reading, viewing data. The MDI is pretty much only used for programming but its needs on certain 10+ platforms and all 15+ to view data through GDS. All MDI functions require a GM subscription.

Tech 2 clone – No need subcription!

I have one of these Tech 2 clone models. Works great.
http://www.chinacardiags.com/wholesale/gm-tech2-gm-diagnostic-scannerworks-for-gm-saab-opel-suzuki-isuzu-holden-1011.html
I paid $319 for it. wasn't the cheapest i found but like i said, only one i got a response from somebody. the quality of this is amazing. i wouldnt never be able to tell it was a clone. the only thing i noticed was that it didnt come with a house plug like the original picture had shown. i did email the seller back so we will see what they say about that.

You don't need a subscription, if you have the emulators to make it bypass that. The TIS software that was included with my clone model was GM, not Saab. lol Had to get the Saab TIS. The card was 143.000 too. I got 148.000 and used MemoryCardExplorer to flash it onto the card. Tedious, but got it all working.

I've disabled my DRL's, deleted the stupid OnStar system so I don't get the annoying 'OnStar Malfunction' message every time I turn the car on, auto-unlock doors at key-out, and lots of other things. Comfort Close is a feature I had activated too, but its a US/Canada and Aus option only and when I disabled my DRL's, it became Comfort Open only. I need to figure out which control module it reads to allow Comfort Close again.

When you add the UEC control module, I was curious to know what Xenon Type 2 meant - so I activated it, and it changes it from bi-xenon to xenon low-beam and halogen high-beam. Interesting. Tempting to run a 'jumper' wire from the 12v positive of the halogen high-beam to the 12v positive on the bi-xenon solenoid so it opens the cutoff shield as well as turn the halogen high beams on

Vetronix GM Tech 2 clone customer review

Customer’ s real experience of using china clone Vetronix Tech 2.
Well, as most of you probably already know, I could not stand wondering if these china Tech 2's worked or not. So after a couple weeks of searching around the internet I finally picked one from:
http://www.chinacardiags.com/wholesale/tech2-diagnostic-scanner-for-gm-saab-opel-suzuki-isuzu-holden-with-full-package.html. I ordered it on a Tuesday and I picked it up at fed ex friday (i missed the fed ex guy and you have to sign for it). Yes, it only took 3 days! So here it is....

Package includes:
  1. Tech-2 Flash Tester( Tech2 main unit)
32 MB PCMCIA Card with GM OE Applications (32 mb card)
    3. CAN diagnostic interface module(Candi) and instruction sheet download (199.2 kb)
    4. RS232 cable and user manual (only for self test usage)
    5. RS232-DB9 adapter (used to connect to computer when use tis2000 software)
    6. DLC Cable, DLC Loopback Adapter
    7. 12V Cigarette Lighter Power Cable
    8. SAE 16/19 Adapter
    9. NAO 12/19 Adapter
    10. Battery Power Cable

I paid 220 usd for it, the quality of this is amazing. I would not never be able to tell it was a clone. The only thing i noticed was that it did not come with a house plug like the original picture had shown. i did email the seller back so we will see what they say about that. i hooked it up to my car and was able to read all the saab specific codes. i went to add aux mode and it said i needed to get security access. which i need the house charger to power the tech 2. So that is where i am at right now. i will report back once i attempt the security access part.
EDIT: So I didn't see a tis2000 disk included in my bundle. But about 2 weeks ago I found a copy. So I downloaded it and I hacked it. What does that mean? No subscription to GM!! So it detected my vin number approved security access and boom, I have aux mode. So to sum it all up. IT WORKS!!!!! Security access and all. I will play around with it more tomorrow and figure out how to change headlight settings. So for all my local people who need tech 2 work done, let me know. I'll be half the price of the saab dealer.

How to install Tech 2 Saab TIS2000 + GlobalTIS

Let's live-stream-ish this.

All of the Tech 2 software is intended to work with Windows XP Professional, 32-bit. It may be possible to use the software using another OS, but results are hit or miss. Broadly speaking, you will probably have good luck with a 32-bit version of Windows 7 and every step you move away from that OS towards current it's going to be more difficult.

Similarly, all Tech 2 software is intended to be used over a physical serial ("COM") port. It may be possible to use the software over a simulated serial port such as a USB to serial adapter, but results are hit or miss. There are a couple specific adapters that are generally considered to work better than others (perhaps someone would care to offer ones they have gotten working, and someone can update this post).

For the purposes of this tutorial, we are going to use Windows XP Pro 32-bit running directly on a PC with a physical serial port. What I have:

1. Dell Vostro 320 - this is a c2010 all-in-one computer that still has native support for Windows XP and has a physical serial port. Mine has an Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 and 3gb of RAM - it's way more than the Tech 2 software needs but will work great.
2. Dell Windows XP SP3 physical CD that I'm using to install XP fresh.
3. Chinese clone Tech 2, from http://www.chinacardiags.com/wholesale/gm-tech2-gm-diagnostic-scannerworks-for-gm-saab-opel-suzuki-isuzu-holden-1011.html
4. Three PCMCIA cards from the same place. Two are Saab-English 148 and one is GM-English 33.004
5. A 16gb flash drive. (Believe me, you want this)

I need to assume you know how to install Windows XP on a computer. There are simply way too many variables to explain how to do this. If you don't know how, there are lots of tutorials out there that can help you.
We are going to pick up right after you've done a fresh install of Windows XP on your computer. I would highly recommend you do this - picking up someone's 10 year old computer and hoping it just works opens you up to world of pain - old anti-virus software, questionable Java installations, corrupted registries, blah blah. XP is old and stupid, you're best served starting over.

As I write this, I am just finishing up installing Windows XP Pro SP3 on my Dell Vostro 320. When it's done, the system will reboot and ask me some questions:

1. Do I want to change my display settings? Yes I do.
2. Do I want to turn on automatic updates? No I don't, not right now.
3. My name? I like User, because it's non-committal.

It's then going to log me on. The first thing I am going to do is open Device Manager:

1. Click the Start menu
2. Right click on My Computer
3. Choose Properties
4. Choose the Hardware tab
5. Click Device Manager

and look at all the devices that have yellow question marks next to them, probably hanging out under Other Devices, indicating there are no device drivers. There are two things you are likely going to want to do:

1. Get a video driver installed so you can fully use the various Tech 2 applications and, most likely, WIS and EPC. If you have a Display driver called "Standard VGA" or an Other Device called "Video Controller" you are going to need a driver. For XP-era machines, there are going to be three main sources of video drivers - Intel, AMD/ATI, and Nvidia. You are going to need to know who you need to hit up to get your video driver. I probably can't help you with that.

2. Make sure your chipset drivers are installed to ensure Windows is managing your chipset properly as otherwise, you could have serial port and USB issues. If you have a bunch of unknown devices called "PCI Device," you're probably missing some chipset drivers. As with the video drivers, Intel, AMD/ATI, and Nvidia are the common chipset manufacturers for the aughts. You need to know what chipset you have. I probably can't help with that.

The rest of the stuff - things like sound devices and network devices, really aren't important. In fact, to some degree, you really don't want network devices working - that can potentially hamstring your Tech 2 experience and We The People of the Internet don't need your dinosaur OS spreading viruses around the tubes. So, you're in good shape not having network drivers installed.

If you have a Dell computer, getting drivers for your system is easy. Look on the back or bottom of your computer and find the 7-digit Service Tag. Alternatively:

1. Click the Start Menu
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Acessories
4. Click Command Prompt
5. In the black Command Prompt window that appears, type:

wmic bios get serialnumber

and press Enter.
6. After Windows installs wmic (it happens automatically) it will return the Serial Number of your PC, which also happens to be your Service Tag. (Yes, I am so lazy I'm not even going to turn this machine around)

ON A DIFFERENT COMPUTER:

1. Visit www.dell.com
2. Click Support -> Support by Product
3. Type in the Service Tag you just obtained
4. Click Drivers & Downloads
5. You will probably need to locate the option "Operating System" and choose "Change OS" to Windows XP
6. Stick that 16gb flash drive into the computer and start downloading drivers
7. Once the drivers you need are downloaded, take that 16gb flash drive into your DeLorean... I mean old computer, and install them one by one. It's lots of fun!

I would also go ahead and disable Delayed Write for your USB drive via Device Manager:

1. Click the Start menu
2. Right-click on My Computer
3. choose Properties.
4. Click on the Hardware tab.
5. Click on the Device Manager button.
6. Find your in the list, probably under "Disk Drives."
7. Right-click on the device and choose Properties.
8. Click on the Policies tab.
9. Uncheck Enable write caching on disk.
10. Click on OK.

Why do this? Because delayed writes on removable drives are annoying. While it's on, you will need to "Safely Eject Hardware" every time you want to remove that USB drive. You're going to be moving it around a lot, Ejecting every time gets old fast. Microsoft was smart and disabled delayed writes on Vista/7/8/10 by default... which is why you don't need to Eject drives from those newer OSs. So, seriously, just disable it on your XP machine as well.

Be sure you finish up your installation with a reboot. It's XP, it never hurts.
At this point, you should have a functional XP machine, c2008, so you have about seven years worth of updates to install. Fortunately, there is an easy way. Take your 16gb flash drive, plug it back into the other computer - the one with an internet connection - and go to

https://ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=133918#133918

Scroll down a bit to the Windows XP Unofficial SP4 Download Locations and download it from Google Drive. Click the Google Drive link, locate the WindowsXP-USP4-v[whatever the current version is]-x86-ENU.exe file, right click on it, and choose download. It's about 1gb, it will take a while.
Once it's done, take that flash drive back to your time machine computer and get to installing. Remember, XP only supports USB 2.0 at best, so installation is going to take a while!

I'm going to do that now.
Tech 2 and Saab specialty software
While Unofficial XP SP4 is installing, let's go ahead and talk about Tech 2 and Saab specialty software. You're going to need it, and the downloads total around 5gb so it will take a while. First, review this thread:

http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=612946

which basically tells you to click here:

https://1drv.ms/f/s!AuMFf5LIARiPhoFnPRPppeYFz_RnTw

In that onedrive link you'll find two folders. The first is PDFs, which contains a bunch of stuff you don't care about. The second is Software, and you care very, very much about the contents of this folder. Click on it. I know you want to.

Inside the Software folder are some more folders, so let's talk about them:

BIN Files: Contains a bunch of PCMCIA card images. This is the software that makes Tech 2 work. Each BIN file represents one PCMCIA card's worth of data. Assuming you were smart and ordered a Saab-English 148 card with your Tech 2, you can safely ignore the files in this folder. If you did not, you will want to download the Saab 148.bin file. Hang onto it, we'll circle back to these BIN files later. (In case anyone is curious, PCMCIA BIN files have nothing to do with bins commonly referred to when tuning cars - don't get confused) You can almost certainly safely ignore the rest of the contents of this folder.

GlobalTIS: Contains a gigantic ZIP file which includes GlobalTIS and the crack for it. You need this. Start downloading.

TIS2000: Contains a medium sized 7zip file which includes TIS2000 and the crack for it. You need this. Start downloading.

Miscellaneous: Contains two subfolders. Tech 2 Card Writer is a cool little utility that allows you to write the BIN files we discussed earlier to a PCMCIA card installed in your Tech 2. This is great because it means the XP computer you're building right this second doesn't need a PCMCIA card slot of its own. ALL WIN. Download the card_writer.exe file from this subfolder. Memory Card Explorer contains a utility that lets you look around on PCMCIA cards. This is probably not useful for most people. You can download it, but you probably won't use it. Do note that nobody bothered to ZIP up the Memory Card Explorer, so you need to download that entire folder by right clicking it and choosing download. Don't try to download all those files inidividually. That sounds awful.

User Guides: Man, if people read the manuals we probably wouldn't need this thread, so don't start now. Ignore this folder.

WIS: Contains another huge file that is the Saab Workshop Information System installer. This version has been modified so it will run properly on later operating systems. You want this, start downloading.

Depending on your internet connection and Microsoft's bandwidth generosity, these downloads could take a while. For the big ones - GlobalTIS and WIS - I would highly recommend downloading one at a time for maximum throughput. It really sucks when you have a slow download and something interrupts you...

Download all this stuff to your newer/faster computer - don't put it straight on the flash drive. We need to do some things to these files before moving them over to Old Faithful.
If you're at this point, you should have:

1. A old, awful computer running Windows XP SP3, fully patched and up to date using Unofficial SP4, with potentially a bare minimum of device drivers

2. Your new, wonderful computer with bunch of downloads from onedrive

First up, let's get TIS2000 running. To get that going, you need to download and install 7zip. Visit this site:

http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

and download the appropriate version of 7zip for the OS on your newer, internet connected computer. Once it's downloaded, go ahead and install 7zip.

Once 7zip is installed, find 7zip File Manager on your Start menu and run it. By default, it will open up your Downloads directory, which is probably where you've put THE "TIS 2000 Dongle Crack.7z" file you downloaded earlier. If you did not put it in your Downloads directory, you'll need to go find it!

Once you've located "TIS 2000 Dongle Crack.7z" in the 7zip File Manager, double click on it. It will open and a display a folder called "TIS2000 Dongle Crack!" You get to double click on that, too! In there you will find several folders and files.

Plug in your trusty 16gb flash drive. Make a folder on that flash drive called TIS2000, then navigate into your new TIS2000 folder.

Now, in 7zip File Manager select all six items and drag them into the TIS2000 folder you just made on your flash drive. It may take quite some time to finish EVEN AFTER THE STATUS WINDOW DISAPPEARS, be patient and wait for Windows to finish.
Saab TIS2000 install
Once it's done, take the flash drive from new computer to old. We're going to install TIS2000.

1. Open up the flash drive on the old computer
2. Double click on the TIS2000 folder
3. Double click on the Saab TIS2000 2.2008 folder
4. Double click on the cosids folder
5. Double click on SETUP.EXE (there are several files named setup, or similar to setup - you need SETUP.EXE, it has the icon of a car connected to a Tech 2 which, you know, makes sense)
6. The installer will ask a few questions. CHOOSE ALL THE DEFAULTS. CHANGE NOTHING.

The installer takes a while. Be patient.

After TIS2000 is installed, you need to install the dongle emulator.

1. Open up the flash drive on the old computer
2. Double click on the TIS2000 folder
3. Double click on the Drivers folder
4. Double click on DDINST32.EXE
5. Choose Express installation
6. When it's done, choose Exit

Now we need to install the crack.

1. Click on the Start Menu
2. Choose Run
3. In the Run dialog box, type

c:\program files\cosids\bin

and press OK
4. Open up the flash drive on the old computer
5. Drag id.dll from the flash drive window to the c:\program files\cosids\bin window. Windows will ask if you want to replace the existing file. Choose YES.
6. Drag SCAControlUI.exe from the flash drive window to the c:\program files\cosids\bin window. Windows will ask if you want to replace the existing file. Choose YES.
7. Close the c:\program files\cosids\bin window.
8. Click on the Start Menu
9. Choose Run
10. In the Run dialog box type:

c:\windows\system32

and press OK
11. Choose Show the contents of this folder
12. Open up the flash drive on the old computer
13. Double click on the Dongle folder
14. Drag each of the files - GOODKEY.SSI and SSIPDDP.SYS - from the Dongle folder to the c:\windows\system32 folder. MAKE SURE YOU DRAG THESE FILES INTO C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 AND NOT ONE OF THE OTHER SUBFOLDERS IN THERE BY ACCIDENT.

You have successfully installed TIS2000.
Saab GlobalTIS install
Okay, now let's get going with GlobalTIS. There are more hoops to jump through here, so get ready.

The first thing you need to do is locate the GlobalTIS.zip you downloaded previously from onedrive. We can go ahead an unzip it on the newer computer:

1. Right click on the GlobalTIS.zip file
2. Choose Extract or Extract All (depends on which version of Windows you're using)
3. Change nothing, just click Extract

When it's done, a new window will open. This is a new folder called GlobalTIS that contains all the files in GlobalTIS.zip.

First, locate Saab Global TIS 2010-1.iso - This is an "ISO image" of the GlobalTIS install DVD. What we do here depends on what operating system your newer computer is.

If you are using Windows Vista you're insane. But, if you've got that or Windows 7 your easy option is to stick a blank DVD in your drive write that ISO out to a physical disk.

If you are using Windows 8 or Windows 10, you can actually view the content of that ISO without burning it out to a physical disk. One you have access to the content, you can copy them to your 16gb flash drive and install from there. I think - I've not tried this, but I will give it a go in the near future. Windows 8 and Windows 10 still have the option to burn ISOs to physical media.

Even if you're using Windows Vista or 7, you can install software to view the contents. Visit this URL:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38780

and install the Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel.

Now, all that said - because I do not have firsthand experience installing GlobalTIS from a flash drive and because there are a lot of variables in making that happen, we're going to proceed by burning that ISO image to a physical DVD... that will be the same experience across all PCs. So, if you know what you're doing with mounting ISOs and whatnot, go for it. The rest of the class is going to make a future plastic frisbee.

1. Put a blank DVD in your DVD drive (if Windows pops up with an Autoplay window, just "x" out of it)
2. Locate Saab Global TIS 2010-1.iso in the GlobalTIS folder we made a minute ago
3. Right click on Saab Global TIS 2010-1.iso
4. Select Burn Disc Image
5. After the Windows Disc Image Burner loads, click Burn

This process will take a little while, so be patient.

While it's burning, we can do some other things!

Click on your Start Menu and go find 7-zip File Manager from earlier. Click on it. By default, it will open up your Downloads directory, which is probably where you've put the "GlobalTIS.zip" file, *and* where we made the GlobalTIS folder just a minute ago. If you did not put it in your Downloads directory, you'll need to go find it! In 7-Zip File Manager, double click on the GlobalTIS FOLDER (NOT the GlobalTIS.zip file). Double click on SAAB GLOBALTIS KEYGEN.rar. Inside are two files - KeyGen.bat and KeyGen.class.

1. Plug your 16gb flash back into the newer computer if it's not already.
2. Open it up, and make a new folder called keygen.
3. Drag the two files - KeyGen.bat and KeyGen.class - from the 7-zip File Manager to the keygen folder you just made on the flash drive
4. Close 7-zip File Manage

Finally, copy the Java 6 for global tis.exe file from your GlobalTIS folder to the flash drive.

Now, we have one last prepatory thing to do. Go here:

https://www.foxitsoftware.com/products/pdf-reader/

and get yourself a FREE DOWNLOAD of Foxit PDF Reader. Save it to the flash drive.

You should now have:

1. A DVD with the GlobalTIS program
2. A flash drive with a folder called keygen that has two files in it
3. Java 6 for global tis.exe on your flash drive
4. FoxitReader83_enu_Setup_Prom.exe on your flash drive

Take the flash drive from the computer, and return it that old busted XP rig you got on Ebay.

1. Open up the flash drive
2. Double click on Java 6 for global tis.exe
3. Run through the Java installer - it will only take a second.

Note the last screen after Java installs: Java will periodically check for updates. This is one of those reasons you don't want this computer connected to the internet - you do NOT want Java updating. It's important.

After Java has installed, let's run Internet Explorer one time to be sure it works. Click on the Start Menu, click on Internet. You may be prompted to answer some questions - I encourage you to answer those questions and NOT to click "Ask me later." Just get it over with.

Everything look good? Great.

Now we need to install the PDF viewer software. Open up the flash drive and double click on FoxitReader83_enu_Setup_Prom.exe to start the installation. Don't change any of the options, just click Next through the entire process. When it's done, click Finish and Foxit will open. Choose Not Now, exit Foxit.

Place the DVD you just burned into the XP machine's drive. Autoplay should take over - after a few seconds you will get the InstallAnywhere window and a moving status bar. If you do not, you jumped ahead and turned off Autorun, shame on you. You're either with me or against me.

Run through the GlobalTIS installer, which primarily consists of clicking OK and Next a few times. Do not change the default install path, don't change the installation type, don't change the host, don't change ports, don't configure a mail server, don't add a proxy. OK and Next is all you do UNTIL you get to the Dealer Code. Type in a 6-digit number of your choosing. REMEMBER THE SIX DIGIT NUMBER. I used 599599!

GlobalTIS takes an eternity to install, be patient. Lots and lots of tiny files.
Stay tuned for Part Next.
If you're like me, you probably disappeared a 22oz of Drake's while you waited for GlobalTIS to install, so things may get a little rough. Stick with it. You can do anything you put your mind to.

At long last you get to click Done, and GlobalTIS is installed. Now we need to crack it.

First, locate the GlobalTIS icon on your desktop. Double click on it. Internet Explorer will load, and it will probably take a long time before anything happens. Be patient, let it sit there.

IE will eventually respond with a popup advising you information sent over the internet isn't secure. That's cool, make sure the "Don't show this..." box is checked and click Yes.

Look at the top of the screen, and note the warning "Intranet settings are turned off by default...." We need to turn them back on, so click on the banner where it says "Click for options" and choose Enable Intranet Settings. You will get a warning dialog, click Yes.

You will be returned to the GlobalTIS registration page. You need to pay attention here:

1. Click Edit Dealership Data
2. Fill out EVERYTHING. The data is going nowhere, use whatever information you like, BUT note the Dealership ID. Use the same ID you provided earlier. If you're me, that'd be 599599.
3. Click Save when you're done.
4. You will be notified the dealer data has been stored, click OK.
5. Don't change the user count, don't change the brand subscription
6. Click Email/Fax Registration
7. IE will pop up asking for a place to save a file. The default is My Documents. Just leave it, click Save.
8. Click Close to dismiss the download dialog
9. In the GlobalTIS window, click the Logout button.
10. Confirm you wish to log out.
11. Close Internet Explorer

Next we need to get some information.

1. Click on the Start menu
2. Click on My Documents
3. Double click on the file called "registration" - this is the file GlobalTIS made just a minute ago
4. Foxit will open and display a PDF with a GM Europe Header.
5. Scroll to the bottom and find the Request ID and the Software Key
6. Click on the Start menu
7. Click on All Programs
8. Click on Accessories
9. Click on Notepad
10. In the Foxit window, select the 64-character Software key.
11. Right click on your selection and choose Copy
12. Click on the Notepad window.
13. Click Edit->Paste
14. Your 64-character Software Key will appear in Notepad.
15. Edit that key so it's all on one line, and remove all the hyphens.

Now, things are about to get real. PAY ATTENTION.

1. Open up your flash drive, and double click on the keygen folder we made all that time ago. Be sure there are still two files in there - KeyGen.bat and KeyGen.class.
2. Click on the Start menu
3. Click Run
4. Type C:\Program Files\GlobalTIS\tomcat\webapps\tis2web\WEB-INF\lib
5. Click OK
6. Drag KeyGen.bat and KeyGen.class from your flash drive into this window
7. Close the flash drive window. Leave the other window - C:\Program Files\GlobalTIS\tomcat\webapps\tis2web\WEB-INF\lib, titled "lib" - open
8. Click on the Start menu
9. Click All Programs
10. Click Acessories
11. Click Command Prompt
12. Type

cd\Program Files\GlobalTIS\tomcat\webapps\tis2web\WEB-INF\lib

and press Enter
13. Find your Notepad window, the one where we edited that 64-character Software Key
14. Select that entire 64-character key - BE SURE YOU SELECT THE ONLY THE KEY, NO SPACES OR RETURNS OR ANYTHING ELSE
15. Click Edit->Copy
16. Return to your Command Prompt window
17. Type:

keygen

DO NOT PRESS ENTER
18. Press the space bar ONCE
19. In the top left corner of the Command Prompt window, click on the little command prompt icon
20. Choose Edit
21. Choose Paste
22. The 64-character software key should appear on the command line
23. WITHOUT PRESS ENTER, just start typing

>> key.txt

24. Now, finally, press Enter
25. More or less nothing should happen.
25. Type

exit

and press Enter

Your command prompt window will close. You can also close Notepad. You do not need to save the file in Notepad. We're done with that.

Now, let's get back to that registration.

1. Find the C:\Program Files\GlobalTIS\tomcat\webapps\tis2web\WEB-INF\lib window, titled "lib" that we left open earlier. Look around in there for a text document called key and double click on it. There should be a short character string (your Subscriber ID), another 64-character string (your License Key), and "From Russia with Love."
2. Find the GlobalTIS icon on your desktop again, and double click on it. It should load much faster this time!
3. Scroll to the bottom and locate Section 6, the Subscriber ID and License Key boxes.
4. Copy and paste the strings from key.txt into the GlobalTIS registration window.
5. Scroll down further in the GlobalTIS registration window and click Register License Key
6. READ THE WARNING - it's going to take some time - then press OK.
7. HAHA - fooled you! It's done instantly. Press the logout button.

Close all the windows. ALL OF THEM.

You are done. GlobalTIS is installed!
